Understanding Accreditation
Accreditation is the formal recognition granted to a Certification Body by an independent Accreditation Body, confirming that the certification body is competent, impartial, and operates in accordance with internationally accepted standards. Accreditation provides confidence that issued certificates are credible, reliable, and globally recognized.
Applicable Accreditation Standards
Management System Certification Bodies are required to comply with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17021-1, which specifies the criteria for auditing and certification of management systems. Additional scheme-specific standards may apply depending on the certification program, such as information security, food safety, environmental management, and other sector-specific schemes.
Importance of Accredited Certification
Organizations are encouraged to obtain certification from accredited Certification Bodies because accredited certificates provide greater confidence to customers, regulators, government agencies, and international stakeholders. Accredited certification demonstrates that the certification process has been independently verified and meets globally accepted standards.

Key Accreditation Requirements
Impartiality and Independence
Certification activities must be conducted impartially. The Certification Body shall ensure that audits and certification decisions are free from conflicts of interest and commercial influence.
Competent Personnel
Auditors, technical experts, and certification decision-makers must possess appropriate qualifications, training, industry experience, and ongoing competency evaluations.
Audit Process Compliance
All certification audits shall be performed according to established accreditation requirements, including Stage 1 Audit, Stage 2 Audit, Surveillance Audits, and Recertification Audits.
Confidentiality
Information obtained during audits shall be treated as confidential and protected against unauthorized disclosure unless required by law.
Certification Decision
The certification decision shall be made independently based on objective evidence collected during the audit process. Certification cannot be granted without satisfactory audit results.
Surveillance & Maintenance
Accredited Certification Bodies are subject to periodic assessments and surveillance by their Accreditation Body to verify continued compliance with accreditation requirements. Failure to maintain compliance may result in suspension or withdrawal of accreditation.
Use of Accreditation Marks
Accreditation symbols, logos, and marks shall only be used in accordance with the rules established by the Accreditation Body. Misuse of accreditation marks may lead to corrective action, suspension, or withdrawal of accreditation.
